Purpose:
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for academic and personal
success through obtaining the necessary credits required to meet their personal
educational goal, obtaining a High School Diploma.
This program strives to motivate students to utilize the acquired skills
learned from life's experiences and apply them in earning their diploma through
common sense learning and practical application.
Further, etiquette, presence, vocabulary, mannerism and style is
reinforced and elaborated upon to help students achieve career and job placement
success. II.
Program Structure: The
structure is based on general education, which is graded and
characterized by individualized, self-paced instructional support and
performance based evaluation. Placement
into the program varies, depending on the individuals level of reading and
comprehension and/or the individual's high school transcript.
A variety of resources including computers, CD-ROMS, cassette players,
videos and interactive videos may be used in the course.
Modifications to equipment and curriculum or special accommodations may
be required based on students needs. This
program framework correlates to the Sunshine State Course Code Descriptions for
Grades 6-12, Basic and Adult Education Manual). The school will be accountable
for the students learning in the subject areas of language arts, mathematics,
science, and social studies; the
arts (music, visual arts, dance, theater , health, physical education , and
foreign languages) will be awarded to students based on the
Experience
Profile Form. The
standards and benchmarks, which comprise the Sunshine State Standards, are State
Board of Education adopted. The
Program Procedures are as follow: A.

III.
Intended Outcome:
The
graduation requirements are the same for adults and secondary students.
To obtain a regular adult education diploma, a student must earn
twenty-four credits, and maintain a GPA in accordance with State of Florida
guidelines. The
requirements for a adult high school diploma, as per Section 232.246, are: Language
Arts
4 Credits Mathematics
3 Credits Social
Studies 3 Credits Science
3 Credits Life
Management Skills
1/2 Credit Practical
Arts/ Performing Arts 1 Credit Electives 9 1/2 Credits TOTAL:
24 Credits Algebra
I is required for all 9th grade and
up or adult education students. Social
Studies requirements include one credit each in American and World History and
one-half credit each in American Government and Economics.
The Goliath Academy Program provides courses of study leading to the
completion of credits to qualify for a high school diploma.
A cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required for
all of our students. Practical
Arts is any course in music, dance, drama, painting, or sculpture that requires
manual dexterity or a course in speech or debate may be used to satisfy this
Performing Arts requirements. A
combination of 1/2 credit from Practical Arts and 1/2 credit from Performing
Arts will satisfy this requirement. Physical
Education is not required, but can be recognized as any activity which entails
motion. Walking, running, jogging, etc. IV.
Grade

Grade = 6 Credits
11th Grade = 13 - 18 Credits 10th Grade = 7 - 12 Credits 12th Grade = 19 or more Credits V.
Special
Note: For transcript purposes, when
a student successfully completes three 1/2 credits courses during the
same term or program, a new section number will be created for every additional
course which the student is enrolled in or has taken. Federal and state legislation requires the provision
of accommodations for students with disabilities to meet individual needs and
ensure equal access. Adult students with
disabilities must self-identify and request such services. Students
with disabilities may need accommodations in such areas as instructional methods
and materials, assignments and assessments, time demands and schedules, learning
environment, assertive technology and special communication systems.
Competencies: Instructional
strategies for Goliath Academy (Online) must include methods that require
students to identify, organize and use resources appropriately; to work with
each other cooperatively and productively in chat rooms (classrooms); to acquire
and use information ( online library); to understand social, organizational, and
technological systems; and to work with a variety of tools and equipment.
Instructional strategies must also incorporate the methods to improve
students' personal qualities and high-order thinking skills.
